That fuel, gasoline, has a certain flash point and a given output of power per gallon of gasoline. There are other fuels that power other types of vehicles -- for example, jets run on a high-octane petroleum product that has far more energy per gallon than automobile gasoline. Diesel fuel, on the other hand, burns more slowly.
So you have different types of fuels for different vehicles. Most people understand the idea that if you took your Toyota Corolla, drove it down to the airport, and filled it up on jet fuel, you wouldn't get a faster Toyota Corolla. |

That meant that he could no longer afford to drive his car, lacking money for gasoline and car insurance. This logic was received positively by his parents, who thought it represented responsible thinking. He then ceased all activities, except school work. Eventually, this, too, exceeded his capabilities. He was abruptly stricken with schizophrenia and hospitalized for 11 days.

Despite profound cholesterol reduction with medication, the arterial plaque inflammation (the fire) and disease progression were inevitable because the patients were still ingesting the toxic American diet (the gasoline).
The patients in that study who died or whose disease progressed were subsequently tested for highly sensitive C-reactive protein, or HSCRP. |
| Stopping the gasoline puts out the fire. Reforming the way you eat will end the heart disease.
Here are the rules of my program in their simplest form:
• You may not eat anything with a mother or a face (no meat, poultry, or fish).
• You cannot eat dairy products.
• You must not consume oil of any kind—not a drop. (Yes, you devotees of the Mediterranean Diet, that includes olive oil, as I'll explain in Chapter 10.)
• Generally, you cannot eat nuts or avocados.
You can eat a wonderful variety of delicious, nutrient-dense foods:
• All vegetables except avocado. |

Or, to put it another way, just as our car needs gasoline to pull out of the parking lot and pick up speed on the highway, our body requires glucose to kick-start our engine and function at full steam so that we can survive—and preferably thrive. Deprived of this necessary glucose, we could develop a plethora of symptoms from headaches to crankiness. At worst, without glucose we could even go into a coma and die.
In particular, our brains—sometimes called the "crown jewel" of our bodies—are simply desperate for glucose. |

Others include dioxins, asbestos, and particulate matter (those are the particles produced by the combustion of diesel, gasoline, and other fuels, and tobacco smoke). Air pollution caused by particulate matter so small that it can't be seen is what aggravates and leads to respiratory (and cardiovascular) problems—and even death. How? Particles from the polluted air that are too small to be filtered out by the cilia travel deep into the lungs. |

Leaking gasoline and exposed electrical wires can cause a fiery ignition. That's why getting OUT of your car is paramount to escaping a post-accident situation. But what happens if your door is jammed shut (which often happens in accidents)? Breaking a window with your fist is not an option, and few people have the leg power to kick out car windows. To solve this problem, our safety tool offers a built-in metal glass break impact point that instantly shatters vehicle windows, allowing you to escape. |

When the battery is fully charged, the Tesla Roadster stores the energy equivalent of about eight liters of gasoline - a very small amount of energy needed for a car that performs so extraordinarily. There is no internal combustion engine, only the battery unit that can be recharged easily from an electric power grid such as a standard plug-in wall outlet. |

Or, perhaps, gasoline: "10 gallons for $3 each!"
If you do this exercise enough times, you quickly realize that the formula of X for $Y each means the same thing regardless of the X.
In other words, the following pricing statements all describe the exact same price for an avocado:
1 for $5
2 for $5 each
5 for $5 each
10 for $5 each
See my point? The "X" part of this statement is meaningless. It all comes down to the use of the word "each," of course. The "each" makes the "X" irrelevant.

Smells, such as food or gasoline fumes, can aggravate the condition, as can focusing on a nearby object, such as trying to read a book. Anxiety is another common trigger. Symptoms generally start soon after traveling begins, and tend to get worse over the duration of the journey. If feeling sick when traveling by car, sit in the front seat to get a clear view of the horizon, avoid looking down into your lap, and make sure the car is well ventilated. When traveling by sea, get as much fresh air on deck as possible and focus on the horizon rather than the waves. |

A car has an engine, and cells have the mitochondria. As gasoline is fuel to the car, protein, fat, and carbohydrates are fuel to the body. But not all fuels are created equal. Rocket fuel has, pound for pound, about five times the energy of regular gas. And in the cell, burning fat produces two to three times as much energy as burning sugar.
When the rats' calories are cut back, they start relying more on fat stores as a fuel source.

Dukes calculates that an average US gallon of gasoline required approximately 90 tonnes of precursor plant material in the process of its formation in ancient oceans (think of that every time you fill your tank). Calculated globally, human society consumes the equivalent of 400 years' worth of ancient solar energy (expressed in terms of the net primary productivity of plants during previous geological eras) each year through our use of fossil fuels. |

Focus on fuel efficiency: When a car engine is 100 percent fuel efficient, all of the energy produced by the combustion of the gasoline goes directly into making the car go. Nothing is wasted; everything is used. The only things left over, carbon dioxide and water, are expelled through the exhaust pipe. Not exactly major pollution threats. In the current real world, our car engines are only around

Some of the toxins we may encounter have their own warning systems so we know not to ingest them or use them (you know by the smell of bleach or gasoline that you're not going to be serving either in a wine goblet). But many of today's toxins are odorless and colorless, so you may not have such an overt warning. In a way, what we lack in minerals, we make up in heavy metals.
Now, that doesn't mean you should fear every chemical that you come into contact with. Chemicals aren't out to get us. Instead, they're really intended to make our lives better. Take shampoo, for example. |

MCTs, by comparison, are like rolled up newspaper soaked in gasoline. They not only burn brightly, they burn up the wet logs as well. In one study, the thermogenic effect of a high-calorie diet containing 40 percent fat as MCTs was compared to one containing the same level of LCTs. The thermic effect (calories wasted six hours after a meal) of the MCTs was almost twice as high as the LCTs. With MCTs, 120 calories were used, compared to 66 calories from LCTs over the six hours. |

As I drove down the freeway I imagined what might be going on in the universe—were elves building an auto supply store somewhere down the road? Could the people who were driving by see what was going on? Was it just not there one minute and suddenly there the next? What was there before, an open space? Another business? What must that do to the people who work there? What a strange day they must be having. |

Reductions in environmental lead exposure in the United States since the 1980s, through controls on gasoline emissions and pipes that supply drinking water, could reduce the potential impact of lead to cataract development. The extent to which lead might contribute to cataract, worldwide, is unknown.
Lead exposures early in life can accumulate in bones. As bones thin with age, they not only release calcium but also other stored minerals like lead. Therefore, if lifetime lead accumulation is high, anything that increases osteoporosis could increase lead exposure. |

Americans spent more on prescription drugs in 2004 than they did on gasoline or fast food. They paid twice as much for their prescription medicines that year as they spent on either higher education or new automobiles.
The American prescription drug market is so lucrative that many foreign drug companies have moved in and now depend on Americans for most of their profits. For foreign executives, the math is simple. |

Aveloz is called "petroleum plant" because it produces a hydrocarbon substance very much like gasoline. This plant is being studied by Petrobas, the national petroleum company in Brazil. It is thought that the hydrocarbon produced by the plant could be used directly in existing gasoline refineries; estimates of ten to fifty barrels of oil per acre of cultivated aveloz with cost estimates of $3-10 per barrel have been postulated.1

As postwar refining for automobile gasoline expanded exponentially, benzene was ever more abundant. In fact, there was an awful lot on the market to be unloaded. The production of rubber cement, using both natural rubber and artificial rubber substitutes, was able to absorb a healthy pottion of this excess byproduct. It was good for business all the way around.
A heavy cost was hidden in the profitable sale of benzene-laced rubber and synthetic polymer cements. Shoemakers, more than any other working group, paid the price: people such as Clara Carelittle, representing a sizable cadre of U.S. |

Likewise, whenever your blood glucose levels are elevated, it creates a toxic mess just as it would if you spilled gasoline when you were filling your car. In optimal health, the body maintains very tight control over blood glucose levels and it works very hard to keep those levels within a narrow range.
When blood glucose levels surge too high, excessive glucose cannot be readily taken up by cells. It begins to bind to various body proteins and other molecules, changing their structure and creating physiological chaos. |
